Janey's 2nd Newsletter

Hello Everyone!

This is Janey Cowles.  This is my newsletter about what is going on in the Philippines and our recent trip to Dayton Tennessee.  Did you like my first one?

Let me tell about what is going on in the Philippines first.

Here in the Philippines we are having a drought. so it is very hot here. So we haven't had any good rains in several weeks. The government said that if it doesn't rain in 45 days the whole of Mindanao  will not have electricity.

On the 18th of March will be a graduation for the preschool in one of the villages.  I am at the orphanage right now writing this newsletter.

Now, I will tell you about our trip to Dayton Tennessee.

Here I am trudging in the snow at our house. I was so cold then. The snow was about 3 inches deep. Some people said that it never snowed like that in Dayton before.

This is a picture of my dad and me in front of a restaurant that is near our house.  It really was an OK place but the name seemed kind of funny.   The people around Dayton where we live are really nice and the we ate at several different places but this was the only one that was a bit different.

It is a small town of about 6,000 people.   There is a college there called Bryan College.   We went to two basketball games there.

In Dayton, there are many places to eat like McDonald's, Wendy's and Sonic.  That was fun as we don't have all the these choices in the PI.  We especially liked the Mexican restaurants, even Taco Bell!

We also were able to shop and a Super Walmart and other stores.   Nearby is Chattanooga so we spent a day there to look around.

I made a new friend there named Olivia and we did some horseback riding lessons together, even though it was so cold.  I will be able to go to a Christian camp here in June when we come back in the summer.  It is free if I do 7 Bible lessons and return them.  So that is good!  Olivia will go there with me.

My two sisters from California were able to come for a visit while we were in Dayton.   We went to a cave, took a tour of an ice cream and milk factory and did some girl stuff together.

From the picture, you can see it was cold.  We all dressed with hats, gloves and leggings.

It was very different to be so cold and to not dress in shorts.

I was also able to complete all of my standardized tests for the year so when we come back we don't have to do that again.   Next year, I will be in seventh grade.

It was good to spend time playing in the snow with my mom and dad and to throw snowballs at each other.  This is the first time I have seen it snow.

The people at the Dayton Family Church were really generous.  They gave so many nice shoes, clothes and even vitamins for the kids here.  We were able to bring most of these back with us.

I have a new project.  Maybe you would like to help.   I am collecting money to provide Bibles for people here in their own language.  We can buy them for about $3 USD.   If you would like to help with this, send me an email to janeykejia@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

This is all for now.

Blessings  to All,

Janey
